Ok guys, this is just a trial. This is the Paragliding clip on SmugMug in full 1080P. Watch it here!
It’s the first video I’ve uploaded to SmugMug. Think of this as a trial. If it gets the views, I’ll look at getting a full account over there so I can put everything up in HD all the time.
Hope you enjoy it!

Beautiful work. I found you on Vimeo and was amazed how much you accomplish on a 7D. I just bought the 4D a year ago for stills, you’ve convinced me to upgrade now. I don’t do much motion but since I live half the year in Alaska and the other in Hawaii there’s times I wish I did. Just the other day I saw two bull moose bluff charging each other over a female and was saddened with the results of my stills. (Great shots but might as well been two moose eating berries).
At any rate love the blog and keep up the great work!
Thanks very much Alex, it sure is nice to hear that you enjoy the videos and are liking the blog. It’s all pretty new to me this whole blog thing. That’s why I’m still using a site that’s only about three changes away from the original preset theme!
hahaha!
Shooting video on a DSLR is a tonne of fun! If you manage to get yourself a 7D, or even the 500D (It’s harder work, but you can shoot some nice stuff with it.) You’ll really have a ball, I’m sure!
Stay in touch!
Great footage, Christian! I just bought a 7D and am looking forward to taking it on my trip to Kauai in May. In the Paragliding video, you had a couple of short interview clips. Were you using an external mic such as the Rode or was that the onboard camera mic? The audio was great! Also, what lens were you using? Keep up the great work! I’ve enjoyed reading your blog.
Thanks Derick! Enjoy your trip mate, can’t wait to see your footage, make sure you share when you get back!
The two interviews were shot on my Panasonic HVX with a Rode NTG-1 Shotgun Microphone. I’ve tested my 7D with some Sony Radio microphones and the audio recording was pretty average mate, so average in fact I couldn’t use it. I’m not sure how the old Rode Video Mic fairs either, as it’s still got it’s AGC weirdness going on.
I am looking at getting a JuicedLink XLR adapter and a 5DMKII as an audio solution, but will definitely be doing some tests with the 7D as well. I’ll post them when I do.
Have fun on your trip!
