In-Dust-Real Light & Magic

Dust can be a photographers best friend, it can also be a real pain in the butt!

I shot this at sunset on the day of the horrible dust storm that enveloped most of the East coast of Australia. Apparently it was the worst we’ve ever had. I don’t remember the last one, so it can’t have been too bad.

I really only went out on the off chance that it did something spectacular. Turned out it just looked dusty! Funny that! :) But it did put a very haunting, ethereal feel on the afternoon. Like the whole world was dormant, possibly about to suffer an attack from soul sucking vampiric zombies.

I used the usual suspects here, the 50mm 1.8 saved my butt when the light got bad. The Tokina loved it! But the old 75-300. . .well, I’ll let the footage speak for me here. Sure it can zoom, but it ‘aint that good in low light. I am interested to see how the 7D looks at ISO 1600, because it’s a dog’s breakfast on the 500D when you’re telephoto is sitting at f5.6. Time to start saving for some L series glass now!

The stuff that has been coming into the camera the last two days though, since the Dust has scattered. . .well. . .you’ll just have to wait and see. . .;)

More soon. . .
